Riley is developing an innovative automated trocar placement device to enhance the safety and precision of laparoscopic and robotic abdominal surgeries. By integrating optical visualization with advanced pressure-sensing technology, the device reliably detects when the abdominal cavity is accessed, reducing the risk of organ injury.
Building on research conducted during graduate studies at UNL and experience in surgical robotics at Virtual Incision, Riley’s work aims to provide surgeons with real-time feedback for safer and more effective procedures.
