Brett Kennedy

Brett joined NIS in 2016 as Director. He came from the makerspace community in Phoenix, Arizona where he took on a variety of roles from customer service, fabrication and membership sales. He received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in 2013 from Arizona State. His work ranges from graphic design to functional objects made from wood, metal, and textiles. Beyond makerspaces Brett works with entrepreneurs and hardware start ups to prototype and provide feedback on best manufacturing processes.

Jerry Reif

Jerry joined NIS as Shop Manager in 2016. Previously he spent 15 years with Duncan Aviation as an Aircraft Interior and Avionics Specialist as well as an Engineering Crew Leader. He was most recently employed by Total Manufacturing Company Inc in Lincoln as Safety Director, Project Manager and Robotic Fixture Design Manager. He has served his community his entire career by volunteering with Junior Achievement where he mentored grade school and high school students about business and entrepreneurial principles and served as United Way Coordinator and committee member at both Duncan and TMCO. Jerry recently started his own company, JP Renovations and is a carpenter and handy man.

Dr. Shane Farritor

Dr. Shane Farritor

Dr. Farritor joined the faculty of the Department of Mechanical Engineering in 1998. Prior to coming to UNL he worked in the Field and Space Robotics Laboratory at MIT and the Unmanned Vehicle Lab at the C.S. Draper Laboratories. Dr. Farritor is chief technical officer and co-founder of the start-up company Virtual Incision Corporation. He is also an inventor on approximately 25 issued domestic and international patents and 43 pending applications. He has received many awards from UNL for his excellence in teaching, most recently the Innovation, Development and Engagement Award in 2014. Dr. Farritor’s research has been published in many respected journals, and he has been the PI on many successful grants. Dr. Farritor serves as the executive chairman on the board of advisors for Nebraska Innovation Studio.
